Mortal Kombat 4
99
"Fatality" Doesn´t this word remind you something?
Finally the PC version of Mortal Kombat 4 is out and believe me, you won´t want to miss this one. As the previous Mk´s, this sequel is loaded with lots of fighters to choose, combos, special moves and of course.......Fatalities !
Notice that MK4 is the first MK of the series to implement and use full 3D optimizations, I mean, 3D worlds, polygonal chararcters...etc.
The graphics are the best I´ve ever seen in a PC fighting game, they´re very detailed and look sharp. Even the skin of some of the (human?) players like Sub-zero or Jax look like the real thing.
The D3D and Glide acceleration make this game look much better and smooth, too, also it gives MK4 a big advantage over other fighting games because MK4 is very playable in low-end (P166 non MMX or better) machines with a good D3D compliant accelerator.
The gameplay is superb, it´s fast... maybe faster than the previous versions of MK. It keeps some of the key combinations for the typical moves like the Ice bolt of Sub-zero so it will be very easy to start playing in the most difficult skills for those MK´s fans without having to learn the new combinations for every player.
The control is excellent and it´sresponse is almost inmediate, which gives MK4 skill sense. It´s also very easy to play, if you thought Virtua Fighter 2 was awesome, you´re going to die for this game. When using a Gamepad like the Sidewinder from Microsoft, the gameplay experience is even better since you can use the triggers for stepping left or right and avoid enemy´s attacks and also because it´s very difficult to play and make some special moves with the keyboard.
The interface is very simple, MK4 has lots of play modes including the typical single player mode, plus an added two on two mode so as soon as your first fighter loses all his energy he die and a cool broken glass effect make him dissapear from the screen and then appears the second fighter.
Also there are endurance mode, team play, tournament and practice in which you can practice all moves and even there is an optional legend at the bottom of the screen that will let you see every move you make.
Now.. the MK4 pitfalls.....
The lack of multiplayer or modem play make this game limited in the gameplay, maybe if it would carry at least modem play it´d be too cool, but no, what a strange desicion since multiplayer support is one of the most used feayures of a game.
another pitfall is the lack of a save option during a sinlge player game, although maybe that would make MK4 boring since you could start the game you lose again and again and again which isn´t good for a fighting game.
The skills are perfectly defined, from very easy to very hard, if you´re a novice very easy or easy is perfect because enemies doesn´t move and think that fast but in the other hand, very hard mode is almost unbeatable, at least for me, plus another skill option for choosing how many players you want to play during the game.
Also every player carries his own weapon which adds more gameplay features and variety to MK4.
The best Mortal Kombat game and best fighting PC game available, you say you like fighting games?
