Wow thats a big drop man. 3 to 1?

Theses are probably the reasons:

the Register "Active-X looking thing" is very bad. usually you don't get more then 3* on Katz just because of that. Also the big wide banner of the donation and firefox displays is covering most of the header?

The shoutbox is useless for guests, I suggest turn it off for guests.

Couple ads in the footer is perfectly fine.

Other then that, you should be back to 3 if you fix those. Unless I missed something. Your submission track-records always affect your ratings. Maybe you've been submitting a couple of low-quality posts recently
