godamnnnnnnnnnnn. phaze is putting his own sites on his firstpage. like we are the dogs. we are the source of the ddl sites. if we dont submit downloads, ddl sites will be dieeee. now katz.ws is doing the same. this stonefeather is doing the same. he is putting his site softwarezbb.com on all sections at the first page and on the main page he gets 90% of it. then his friend pornbb? he is mod on his site softwarezbb.com too. his site pornbb gets everyday 90% of the xxx section. look at his site http://www.pornbb.org/. he got a damn ad at the top. i checked 10 forums. they all dont have ads and submits like for 1 year. 20 minuts agi friend of me submitted. and 10 mins later katz has updated the site. his downloads went to first page on xxx section. then 5 mins ago pornbb came again at the first page. please dont do this. he may have 5 stars, but there are like 100 other forums which are clean and submits it for a year.

look at alexa.com and compare phazeddl.com and katz.ws. phazeddl was bigger then katz, but now katz.ws is bigger. you know why? becuase people saw phaze is only putting his own downloads at the first pages, now it will happen with katz too. dont put only some websites every day at the first pages. i get very happy and then i see my downloads are on page 10 in 5 mins

Well, when your site gets to the size of mine and your hosting costs exceed $200 a month which donations don't cover there comes a time when you have no choice but to add advertisements. There's only one, and it's barely intrusive. If you're willing to host me for free I will willingly remove the advertisement.

In regards to my site getting on the front page, that's due to it having a higher ranking than yours. If your site appears on the front page for a few minutes that's because submissions are currently being accepted. I try not to submit more than 20 downloads a day, though on this update I had 40 due to the update taking longer than usual.

we implement a caching system and if the caching system is triggered whilst we're accepting downloads, submissions of sites which are not 5 stars will momentarily show on page 1.
what i suggest: if 10 sites has 5 stars, make a script, only 5 downloads of each site will get first page or second. like that.
i wish i knew how to code this... when I accept submissions, I list submissions from various different 4 and 5 star sites on page 1. unfortunately, other staff that accept submissions usually don't follow this.

Well, when your site gets to the size of mine

I've have a lot of sleepless nights (no, but you get my point8-)) wondering how the heck you got your site that big, in 4 months.

SEO, advertising, passworded files, nfos, social bookmarking, word of mouth, spam (:))), purchasing dead domains/sites, heck I went through the list but I can't seem to find what was your trick.


Good work on that mate, hopefully when you're feeling a little generous, you could give me a few all of your tricks.:D

Anyone can really, if they have the right content etc. ;). It will take time for a site to go to one star to another. If your a 3 star right now wait a month and you'll be a 4! Everyone earns there own traffic by how hard they work. Talking from my own expirence, i was a 2 star when i stated doing submissions here then i decided,"damn im getting shi* i need to work harder". So after that day I started putting lots of hrs into getting posts and soon enough i had over 1,000 threads in every section with only 64 members. The next day i was a 4 star. Even 4 star submissions get the front page sometimes ;)

My site is a little under three months old (2 month 29 days!). I have not always been a five star site. I don't really want to sit here and justify my sites rating or downloads, as I don't have anything to do with it. I am more than happy due to server loads, to have 10-20 (max) downloads from me submitted per day. A little FYI, according to Google Analytics:

26.79% of my traffic comes from Katz (remember I only submit porn), that on average over 90 days equates to around 2,400 visitors a day. I dare say a lot more of you guys get bigger days than that (obviously I've had massive spikes) though I have also had massive drops. My downloads were removed from the database due to downtime. I was banned for submitting XXX as app ;) (for a week or so like everyone else).

Not that it's really any of your business, but my site has also been rated 4/5 for 90% of my submissions. I also send up to 200 visitors a day TOO katz. I try to submit quality, and I guess it's recognised. If it makes you feel any better my site will be down for some server upgrades in the near future. Perhaps you can sing an ode to joy about it on here ;)

He doesn't mod, he's an admin. As a matter of fact, our server admin. No doubt were friends. However, you act as if there is some conspiracy going on here against your site (and others).

I can tell what this post was about tho. Its not about SoftwarezBB or PornBB, or any other 5 star site that appears on the top pages of katz. Its about you, and your site that isn't getting on the top pages.

I'd like to point out several things:
1. thats only the second time i've ever submitted 50 topics in a submissions cycle
2. SoftwarezBB is a 5 star site which was not rated by me. It has nothing to do with my position here, and what i do here. I will also go as far to say that my position here has nothing to do with the position my site lands on the pages of katz.ws.
3. I'm only going to submit 10 topics a cycle, so other sites such as yours can have a chance to appear further up in katz listings.

of course, it brings a good amount of traffic, but i'd say 50% of hits (if not more) sent out by KD (Katz Downloads) to other sites is search traffic -- people looking for something in particular.

the more unique content you submit to katz, the bigger slice of the pie you get.

i've said this before and i'll say it again: we can only list 50 downloads on the main page -- and we get 2000 submissions every 24 hours and everyone wants their downloads on the main page. be realistic.

I'll admit, it does occasionally happen that a handful of sites will hog the main pages, but this is partly because of the way the rating system is designed.

we have no intention of listing particular sites on the main pages and i believe in distributing the traffic equally amongst all those that deserve it.

I completely see your point of how you want to be on the main page -- but honestly get over the jealousy. I haven't been in the game for too long and I get atleast 100 people online at any given time throughout the day. my site is instantddl.com - The point is, PornBB and Stonefeather's site are usually on the main page because they worked their asses off to make the site how it is and what it is. Just because you are new to the game and don't want to work your ass off like everybody else doesn't give you wiggle room to complain about it. Do what everybody else does and work your way up. Don't always think that just because somebody is better than you or higher ranked than you that it means that they got a favor from the webmaster at katz.ws -- they worked their asses off for it. I may not be on the main page yet, but I will try my damn hardest to get better and get the higher rankings

Katz Staff may occasionally do that, it's unpreventable. Reason - they are Staff, you are not. You are of course going to 'edge' up your site that little bit if you had the opportunity (dont deny you wouldn't). It's not exactly unfair. If SoftwarezBB was packed with Layer-Ads, Popups, Adsense, Big Fuck Off "Click here now!!" banners then sure, that would be an issue if it was on the front page :P

pornBB's traffic is from being on page 1 on Katz nothing else.

Don't believe the Users Onlinestat, it's a fake stat, they don't have 800-1,000 user online at a time. They changed the code for Who's Online. It says This data is based on users active over the past fifteen minutes but it's more like 30 minutes or more. When you click on who's online it redirect's you back to the home page, Hmmm! Meta refresh how did that get there. Why they do that, could it be because they don't want you to see how many people are really online, Yeah! that's it.
And if you really paying $200 a month "which i don't believe" for your host then your the one to blame for that, when there are plenty of host's out there that you can pay $50 a month for a dedicated server and still handle the load that you get from Katz.

On the topic of "the future of DDL sites", there seem to be too many people on the lookout for these sort've downloads lately, as if they have nothing better to do. Every time I try download Lost planet, halfway through the 75-odd files the file suddenly gets deleted on Rapidshare within a day of being posted. Is there no way to stop these people? At this rate, the public download scene will be wiped out in 10 years.

The file hosters have to delete the files if they receive a complaint to continue doing what they're doing. Sadly, there isn't really a way to combat this problem

just a question, a 100mb mysql database, how many ipb members can that handle?

I wasn't going to reply to this topic in fear that I may be penalized even further on my submissions for what I have to say, but truthfully it can't be any worse than it is so what does it matter. The bottom line here is this, and these are the hard cold facts. Sites listed on the mainpage are getting much more than 2k unique/day, please don't kid yourself... Yes of course we all want to be added on the mainpage, but that just can't happen because it doesn't work like that, and you all know this. We all are feening for hits, we want our sites to blow up, and the only way we can do that is not by bitching, but by doing something to stand out from the rest, right? Naa nope not true, don't matter what you do, it's all in the hands of the monopolized sites that use the system to their own advantage. Sure why not keep sites on the mainpage with a reciprocal link right back to their site? Keeping the flow steady of coming and going, dont let any of this talk fool you for a second because this IS how it works. I'm not hating on katz at all, I love katz, infact I don't have any other buttons on my site other than katz, which also this is a reason why I am a bit discouraged.

Anyways, I'm going to post 30 Direct Downloads tomorrow night sometime, and i'll be stuck right on the 5th page, or my downloads wont even be added again. Nothing that we have to say or do matters unless they wan't to do it. Bottom line.

Actually, you're only kidding yourself.

Sites on the 1st page are rated 4, and 5 stars. This *does* mean that you will appear on the 1st page, and second page of katz downloads more often. Sites that are rated 4 and 5 stars are of some of the best quality sites. Content, members, design, how many ad's you have, how user-friendly it is and more all play a factor in what your site rating is.

From this point forward, its going to become harder and harder to become a high ranking site. It defeats the purpose if you have tons of 5 star sites. Also, any site the staff here owns, will not be rated 5 stars anymore.

I'm quite tired of all thses sites/owners complaining about this, and that regarding katz downloads, , its owners and how they run things, their sites, your sites, where its placed, how they are cheated, etc. What it boils down to is jealousy.

If someone could log on, and post a topic which actually posts facts instead of accusations then we might get somewhere. whatever happened to the days of running a site *without using submissions*? It can take years (even with the help of katz or other submission sites) to build a nice member base, and have active members.

You also have idea, or no way of knowing how many hits a site gets when listed on the main page. Obviously more then a site listed on the 10th page, but i wouldn't throw numbers around unless you know the exact numbers.

Also, not all sites even require a reciprocal link back, as long as they are not using other buttons. So, in those cases how does it work?

By the way, i've increased your site rating. Why i did it? Because i reviewed your site and saw that you had some content, forums, active members, and no un-wanted ad's.

We deal with hundreds of sites, thousands of submissions, and hundreds of emails. We don't always *see* or *remember* every site, which is impossible. As stated before, multiple times, is that if you want to know your site rank, or inquire about a higher rating... all you have to do is email, and ask.. which you have NOT done. Anyway, Rating was increased.

and for someone who isn't getting hits from katz:
Active Members: 1,205
Threads: 3,862, This Month: 1899 (199%)
Posts: 5,310, This Month: 2649 (208%)
Members: 2,040, This Month: 762 (85%)

You're site stats seem pretty good. 762 members in one month? thats almost 200 new registrations a week.

Stonefeather, you have taken my post and used some of it in context. I am not trying to bitch, and I am far far from greedy. It's just very discouraging for one to submit downloads and see them not even added when Katz is my only single affiliate. I have inquired about the rating system, but got no reply. I asked how to obtain a 4-5 star rating, what I needed to do to improve, because I read the sticky on the rating system and I have followed all best practices. And for the record I only have this many members because: I paid for 2 weeks advertising on Katz Porn just before it went down. I pay for advertising on other websites also. I have a fairly large fan base in the ao scene which about 25% of my members are from. The only reason I have so many active members is because I have direct downloads and they come back each day waiting for the next public release. I am not as you say, I work hard on the my small website trying to make it the best experience for users. It's not about greed, jealousy, or money. It's just hard to see the same sites every single day in the top spots while my site has direct downloads that i've paid mucho grande in servers for on the 5th page. I have enough money, I am satisfied with my life, Im just a very giving person who has a website that would like to get some recognition for what I do provide. Sorry for coming off like that stonefeather, and thank you for the new star rating, it is very much appreciated. I'm getting some sleep, i'll see you all later.

I didn't take anything out of context. You can't judge tone when reading a topic. Just understand that you are not being mistreated in anyway. We have someone who specifically accepts sites, and rates them - who is really impartial to the sites he checks. He looks them over, and gives it a rating.

4-5 stars are going to be harder and harder to come by. If you have 300 sites rated 4 and 5 stars, then it defeats the purpose of the rating system.

anyway, you're site rating has been improved, so you should see a difference.
