i was tired of looking for a program that works on wbb so i went to google and found this topic...this first one is the hack, the second one is just a program you can use on all of them i guess..
by the way here is a note for after installing....if you want to enable sound on your movie, simply go to the system tray and unmute dreamscene in the mixer...by default it is muted and you wont have any sound...
if you want to convert like a full movie or something, i suggest you do it into mpg2...i was bored and converted journey to the center of the earth into that format...and after converting it to wmv, mp1 and mpg 2..i found that only the mpg 2 was working on dreamscene....so if anyone has any problems with their converted movies, that is my suggestion....so to sum up..you can convert your movies if you really want and watch them on your dekstop background lol...
In this installment we are going to look at installing the Vista Ultimate toy DreamScene. Tired of the static pictures as your desktop? DreamScene allows you to incorporate video as the desktop image. This is a default feature of Vista Ultimate, however, with some simple hack files we can achieve the same on Home Premium as well.
**IMPORTANT** Make sure you have Vista Service Pack 1 installed for this patch to work successfully!
The first thing we need to do is download the 20 MB patch file (works for Vista 32 and 64bit) which you can download at the bottom of this topic
Installation is extremely easy. Just extract the compressed file and open the extracted folder.

With the file extracted simply run the Install.bat file.

Answer the series of text messages that show up in the Command Prompt.

Once installation is complete you will need to restart your PC. The location of DreamScene Video is C:\Windows\Web\Windows DreamScene This patch comes with one default video. You can also download tons of them all over the web. I found some very cool DreamScene videos at
dreamscenevideo.net.
The following are the steps involved in turning DreamScene on as your desktop.
Right click an open area on the desktop and choose Properties \ Desktop Background and from here click the drop down box and select Windows DreamScene Content. Then just double click the DreamScene video you want to display.

Installing the patch and downloading a few video's is essentially all there is to it. You can watch the video below where I demonstrate what DreamScene looks like. I also launched a few applications while running DreamScene. Hopefully this helps someone out!

Windows DreamScene (also Motion Desktop) is a nice extra feature that plays high definition video content or movie as desktop background with animated wallpaper instead of static graphic (video demo). Unfortunately, Microsoft only offers the feature to Windows Vista Ultimate users for free download. But it’s not impossible for Windows Vista Home Premium, Home Basic, Business, Enterprise and Starter edition users, and for those Windows XP user who do not want to upgrade to Windows Vista to set a video as animated desktop wallpaper. Here is a trick to use an alternative method to create DreamScene wallpaper effect in non-supported Windows.
To set and play a video as wallpaper in Windows XP, Windows Vista Home Premium, Home Basic, Business, Enterprise and Starter edition:
1. Download and install VLC Player for Windows.
2. Run VLC Media Player, go to Settings -> Preferences, expand Interface and click on wxWidgets. In the bottom right corner of “wxWidgets interface module” window, click on “Advanced options” to show advanced settings. Then uncheck the Taskbar check box in order to remove VLC Player title from the taskbar while the program is running. Check Systray icon if you want to enable Systray (system tray or notification area) icon instead.
3. Next, expand Video -> Output Modules and then select Direct X. In bottom right corner of DirectX Video Output window, check the Advanced Options check box in order to see all the settings available.
VLC Player Preferences
4. Check and tick the “Enable wallpaper mode” check box.
5. Then, select Playlist and then check or tick the Repeat current item checkbox.
6. Press “Save” button when done.
7. Open and play any video that you would like to set as motion wallpaper in VLC Media Player.
8. If the video hasn’t yet been set as desktop background, right click on the video and click on “Wallpaper”.
9. The video or movie will be set as if it’s DreamScene motion desktop background wallpaper.
If you do not configure VLC Player to repeatedly play current media in loop, you can still do so after playing the video. Simply click on View then select Playlist. Highlight the video media content that is playing and click on Repeat One or Repeat All button as shown below to loop the video for non-stop video wallpaper.

Note that the video must be encoded in a video format supported by VLC Player such as MPEG, AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV (Flash Video) and etc. Else you will need to convert the video clip to the supported format.

note..the way the player is setup may be different on your computer...the same basic principles still apply though
and yes this does work on a 64 bit operating system..not just a 32 bit...
