X-( bought a cheap 4 port usb from the £1 pound shop...took it home and plugged it into my laptop...then i plugged my two western digital my book 640gb hard drives into the usb hub and powered on my laptop...fine everything worked perfect...powered the laptop off, then back on and X-( gone, evrything gone X-( nightmare X-( anyone who has lost that kinda amount of data will know how i felt at that moment...so i done all i could do and that was unplugged everything and plugged all my hardware back in seperately to test and i got all my data back...every last piece:D dont know what happened but when my 2 drives were plugged in to this i could find them on my computer but not any of my data and the led light on the 4 port usb was even working...*** moral of the story, just dont chance it with cheap hardware, i dont normally but this time i did and for £1 it nearlt cost me everything i had, not a good deal is it?;) *** cheers, ya!

i got all my data back...the 4 port usb hub i had my 2 hard drives plugged into was showing them in my computer but you couldnt see any of my data when i clicked into any of the 2 hard drives...then when i removed the 4 port usb hub and plugged my 2 hard drives into my laptop without the 4 port usb hub then everything was fine, all my data appeared

Your computer was probably attempting to boot Windows from the wrong drive (because your external drive was plugged in). Nothing to do with the USB hub afaik.

just assumed it was the hub...as when i went over my tracks, removed the hub all went well again

You can always change the boot sequence in the bios so your laptop hard drive is first and then I am sure the hub will work fine.
