If a yahoo user want's to change their email password these are the security questions he can choose from.

What is the last name of your favorite musician?
What was the last name of your favourite teacher?
What was the last name of your best childhood friend?
What is the name of the hospital where you were born?
What is your main frequent flier number?
What is the name of the street on which you grew up?
What is the name of your favorite book?
Who is your favorite author?
Where did you spend your childhood summers?

If any of this information is posted on another site such as facebook or myspace then it's possible to use it to gain control of an email account. Obviously you still need to have the persons email address to begin with but it's not too difficult. If there are RS account details,Paypal info etc in your email account.....well I'm sure you get the picture.
It's becoming apparent that phishing of RS accounts isn't just about clicking on a fake link.

I think with the use of facebook and similar sites people have become a little laxed with personal security. Given the amount of work some phishers are putting in to their deceptions it wouldn't surprise me if they have gotten peoples emails from one thing or another, after all we all have heard of people been phished then getting their accounts back only to lose their accounts almost immediately.

Good info hereward, however, I cant believe people disclose this level of info to anyone on the net....I always keep my guard up and I do a lot of site flipping so security is paramount in my line of business ;)

There are hacking tutorials on a number of sites which detail how to go about this. I am not posting the links for obvious reasons but the approach is the same. This technique is known as reverting.

exactly, I am a member of a few hardcore hacking forums as email logins are readily available. This obviously opens up access to internet banking, paypal, ebay etc.etc.etc...hence, the reason I always check every link etc.

Just in case anyones not getting it. If you know the answer to the security question you can get control of the account, That's why it's called reverting.

just in case if the answer was pointing towards me i would like to clearly state that i meant you can set any question you want other than the ones mentioned in the 1st post of this topic!! so if those questions look pretty ordinary to you you can set any strong question only you know!!
