I use zone alarm. It is far better than Windows firewall as it is more efficient and also, it takes a permission from you when anything wants to connect to the internet from your computer, and it may not get that connected to the net if you not alow.

I have used kaspersky.. (keygen ran out)- very good qual blocked attacked and easy to understand and maintain. Easy to configure.
Windows firewall - Not the most effective but easy to configure
Outpost - Difficult to configure but apparantly the best when it comes to blocking attacks.
Currently im using windows firewall as my kaspersky keygen ran out.

Just posted outpost firewall in the apps section :D
well in the options and apps section off it you should be able to allw programs or their internet deamoms to get past the firewall permiantly or port specificly. you can allso block so it wont keep asking you.

I use Outpost Pro here...one of the best if not the best. Doesn't hog resources, easy to set rules, a lot more intuitive than Zonealarm IMO.

I use Sunbelt Personal Firewall on my desktop (actually, I've been closing it after my PC is done starting up) and ZoneAlarm on my laptop. I really don't need AV software, to be honest, since I'm no noob, but just in case. :P

Have felt no real need of it..once tried zone alarm but had problems with it so scrapped the idea!!
Maybe would try comodo firewall sometime in the future!!

ZoneAlarm, the good thing about it is that it lets you to personalise the application permissions and internet traffic despite sometimes it really hogs processes.
Windows Firewall is fine and it works but its too simple.
Norton Firewall is c**p, it hogs loads of system resources and it's really complicated just to allow a simple program access.

Kaspersky Antivirus 8.0.0.1081 For Windows 7 | 53.2 Mb
http://softexia.com/pics/Kaspersky_logo.jpgKaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management systems, announces the release of a technical prototype of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7. Kaspersky Anti-Virus combines reactive antivirus and spyware detection methods with the latest proactive technologies to provide your computer with the most effective protection against malicious programs. The product is simple to install and set up, while offering advanced users a range of versatile settings for fine-tuning the program. The technical preview is a complex solution for securing computers running under Windows 7.
The prototype includes not only an antivirus component but an effective and fully functional firewall and anti-spam filter. At the heart of the new technical prototype is Kaspersky Lab’s new antivirus engine which is even more effective at detecting malicious programs than its predecessor.
The new engine dramatically increases system scanning speed thanks to improved processing of objects and optimized use of system resources, particularly on dual- and quad-core processor platforms. The unique product architecture ensures high productivity and one of the lowest uses of system resources in the industry. Windows 7 is the next release of the Microsoft Windows operating system which will replace Windows Vista and is a step forward in the development of Microsoft operating systems. The new OS will incorporate enhanced reliability, greater efficiency, an improved interface and extended working features both in global and local information networks.
The technical preview includes a highly effective heuristic analyzer. The heuristic analyzer detects and blocks as yet unknown malicious programs. If a program signature is not included in the antivirus databases, i.e., the malicious program is unknown, the heuristic analyzer will safely launch the program in an isolated virtual environment, analyze the program’s actions and conclude with a high degree of probability whether it is potentially harmful before it is launched in a live environment.
In addition, the technical prototype includes a new user interface developed to meet the needs of both inexperienced and advanced users.
just activate beta version when asked after install and you get 6months trial free
uninstal license key and re activate beta anytime for a further 6 months.....sorted or what
