what speeds does your iisp say you can get in the uk it up to 8meg i have hit a lot more double the speed once but my speed is about 5 meg constant what does your isp say you should get and most important give you you can do a speed test on speedtest.net and paste the results her telling us if you like your isp and what problems your having if any

It's slower than usual atm, particularly up speed.
I'm supposed to get 3 Mb down, 1Mb up, sometimes it nearly does it.

I`ve got Sky Broadband, 16mb. Its tends to run at top speed at all times, but it may help that I live less than a minutes walk from my local exchange. I would happily sacrifice half a megabyte of download speed for the same in upload speed.

I just found out that it is not Broadband. apparently most of the Universities in the UK are all linked together with Fibreoptic and they all have servers sharing info with each other and spreading the load.

They have insane direct download speeds, when I was doing work experience for University of Hertfordshire, I was downloading a file about 5-7mbps from Microsoft. With ftp and a gigabit ethernet card, 750+mbsp transfers.

doesn't it mainly depend on your ISP and sometimes programs can help to tweak for better broadband performance, but often doesn't help much :)

speedtest.net is good at giving false readings. i used to have 20meg cable bb and it would always tell me i was getting between 40 and 60 meg

although i must say, this one is pretty accurate
