My IRL friend told me this statement today, how far do you agree with this statement and why? I for one don't agree.

Interesting statement... I think it could be an addiction (of course I can only use myself as an example)... I seem to be 'always' looking for something to download: a game I will never play, music I will never listen to, wallpapers I will never use... Maybe I should look for my nearest DA (Downloaders Anonymous) Support Group...

The same thing applies to me as well, excessive downloading in really an addiction! 8-)

what i meant by excessive download is that there must always be something in your download basket. the reason i disagree is because i only download what i really need (like applications such as ms office).
about films and music, its a bit ambiguous as there are always new film and music coming out.

The answer is yes. If you're a computer geek like 95% of us on Katz :D then you most probably will waste the time in you're house at you're PC downloading movies witch you wil only see once, software witch you will install so you can mess up you're windows and reinstall it monthly like me, i don't download music much, i listen to internet radio when i'm home, but as for my downloads they are placed like this:
#1 Software
#2 Movies
#3 Games/Others
I was downloading around 60-120gb/month till my mom couldent walk around the house of so many DVDs so i had to decrease my download rate(downloading is going fast but buying dvds is alot slower X_X)

Its an addiction and I am suffering from it these days!! :( :(
I have an RS account which will expire on 22nd of this month!! and I want to utilize it to the maximum!! I sleep around 4-5 A.M. these dayz bcoz I am looking for movies which I can download!! I have got much movies now and still downloading more and I am not even sure whether I would be able to watch them or not!! So DL something which you would not even watch in future maybe is definitely an addiction!!

hi bro ,i am an indian too
I think we are similar ,I am just more nerdy i guess because I am a game junkie just like your a movie one loll
I wouldn't class excessive downloading as an addiction if the items are wanted but if it's downloading for the sake of downloading then it could be or it could be an internet addiction but with an extra involvement element.

I totally agree...my gf is addicted to it. Even if there is "nothing" interesting to dl, then she still does it...even if it is just for the sake of dl it and uploading it for others.

Actually I verify that statement, I lost my internet connection in the last couple of days and I was so depressed that I barely got up from the bed in those 3 days, I don't believe I'm an internet addict since I barely use it for browsing or chatting, I mainly use it for downloads, when the internet connection was cut off I just turned off my pc and stayed in bed.

I guess im addicted to downloading!! And did not think about it to now!!
I have 2 rapidshare accounts and 2 dedicated internet lines at 22mbps down and 2.0 mbps up! And 2 dedicated computers just to download.
And when theres nothing to download, i get irritated and start downloading junk i dont even need!

I do the same thing- I can't even say how many things I've downloaded and never looked at again. I bought all these External harddrives that keep filling up and then sit in a corner. Its getting expensive to download free stuff in my case

I download a ton of stuff ... but it's all stuff that I am interested in and that I eventually look at or make some use of. So for me it's not an addiction but a really great way to access all kinds of valuable info that I wouldn't be able to get any other way.
FWIW I have approx 5TB of disk space that I am busy filling up.

Wow, man - I feel for you. :'( I haven't seen those speeds for over 12 years - nowadays I am downloading anywhere from 200 - 800 kbps and sometimes for updates and other random files I get well over 1 mbps.
Hopefully, things will pick up for you soon.
I cant imagine going back to those times. I remember leaving my computer on all night to download a small file of a few mb and then finding that it had crashed in the morning and having to start all over again.
Broadband has changed everything - luckily I managed to get it back in '96 and I have had it ever since.
