Sprint and Samsung launch biodegradable phone

Several manufacturers have made "green" phones, but they have generally been barebones devices, like the Motorola Renew carried by T-Mobile USA.
The new Samsung Reclaim has a slide-out standard-layout keyboard, e-mail and Web access, a camera and GPS navigation. The phone goes on sale Aug. 16.
Samsung Electronics Co. says the biodegradable plastic is made partly out of corn.
David Owens, Sprint Nextel Corp.'s director of product marketing, says the company is paying more than the usual amount of subsidies to Samsung to bring the price down to $50 for customers signing two-year contracts

Biodegradable phone hmmmm....Good idea but, makes me wonder how long that plastic will take to biodegrade? You know by any chance?

Only ask as those two year contracts you have to sign to get a deal...And if it biodegrades we should know how long it takes to do that as maybe we are one that is careful with the cell phones we have and not knowing how long it will take to do this and we have the phone for a extended period of time means we would have to buy a new phone.

And since they have these biodegradable phones will it biodegrade aerobically with oxygen, or anaerobically, without oxygen.

Sure hope anaerobically, then it would and is a good idea.

Any idea how many mp the camera has or if it's got an mp3 player/FM radio? In a market where most $50-on-2-yr-contract phones usually have a decent-quality camera and a good integrated mp3 player/radio, this little thing might have some pretty stiff competition =P
