Some older movies are best viewed using aspects 16:9 overriding the default.
There are a number of reasons why a movie won't play:
1) There is audio but no picture. You are not using the right video codec.
2) There is picture but no audio. You are not using the correct audio codec.
3) File won't play. You are possibly using a bad media player.
4) For some reason your computer wont play a particular codec. Convert the file.
5) You get two audio tracks at the same time, or you hear a foreign soundtrack when you want to hear English. Select the correct audio channel. This is easier when using VLC. It is not easy to get it to work on WMP.
6) Video refuses to play with funny errors. this is possibly because the filename and path is too long. Rename the file to something simpler, or move the file into a simpler directory e.g. c:\movies

I have been trying to figure out how to open this, "Willow (1988).avi.__a" i have renamed it to "Willow (1988).avi.__a.001" and also to "Willow 1988).avi.001" and use hjsplit on it but can't get it to play. I have the newest codec packs installed, any help with this, is there something i am missing? Oh yes I have renamed all the other files in the sets to corespond to the first.

The password is always a case sensitive Sparrow
Miller214 don't change the extensions. Just use the enclosed hjsplit and it will ask for a password just type or copy and paste it ---> Sparrow

Dean is an unsuccessful broadway performer until his handlers convince him to become an act using a stooge - a guy already positioned in the audience and picked by Dean to be the butt of his jokes - Jerry Lewis. But Jerry begins to steal the show, and helps keep Dean on his toes. Dean's girlfriend and pals tell him to make Jerry an equal partner. Complications occur, while Dean sings and Jerry gets the laughs.

A family in route to New Guinea is shipwrecked on a deserted tropical island. They are forced to remain on the island because of the damage to the ship and the pirates that are roaming the islands. They create a home on the island (centering around a huge treehouse) and explore the island and it's wildlife. Plenty of adventure ensues as the family deals with issues of survival, pirates, and the brothers must learn how to live on the island with an uncertain future.

I must congratulate and thank you for such a marvelous post! In the day when I started amassing my vhs movie collection, little did I anticipate the advent of the dvd or the disappearance of so many titles that were run numerous times on cable. So I focused on the out of the way titles and not my favorites among the well known genres. i.e. So many of Jerry Lewis' movies are not available on dvd. Some films like Dr.Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh are gone the same day I buy a copy. But what about the other fans? I love so many entertainers like Jerry Lewis or Errol Flynn but never collected them until recently. Again, thanks and keep up the good work.
