I attempted to dual-boot it with XP for obvious reasons, but it didn't want to install on my computer. After (no exaggerations here) an entire day's worth of trying to get it to work I gave up and formatted my entire disk, going back to XP.

My friend on the other hand had no issues installing it, but I saw no real features that made me go "I NEED THAT." All I saw was eye candy, a sidebar, and the readyboost feature (excluding the fact that DX10 isn't out and 64bit apps aren't terribly popular yet).

I'm happy with XP for the time being, I'll upgrade when I see something I have to have.

ya, when i started to install vista, i had to uninstall a bunch of programs, its kind of a pain in the ass, especially since the freakin thing had an internal error or something like that later on in the instalation.

Excellent product!
Unfortunately we must suffer with the time while Microsoft fix professionally their bugs...
Anyways (http://www.windowsvienna.com/)...VIENNA is coming 2009 ! (http://www.trustedreviews.com/pcs/news/2007/02/12/Microsoft-Windows-Vienna-Coming-2009/p1)

XP workin fine so what is there to actually gain with Vista, ok it may look nice with the odd extra effect or two but like previously said some software issues may give you a headache and there's bound to be some teething problems to come so i'll wait for now. saying that i have tried vista themes n desktops on one pc just for the cleaner look. :D :D

I wanna upgrade to Vista, but one of the downsides is when gaming, you'll see longer loading times compared to when you were on XP... since Vista is more memory and CPU intensive.

My suggestion is only upgrade to Vista if/when you've got 2GB of RAM.

I'm dual booting XP and Vista. I like VISTA and it's much more responsive when you switch some of the "features" and services off.

But, I still use XP for gaming - at least until I can afford a 8800 series GFX card.

the drivers problem hasn't solved yet. Vista has many problems with hardware drivers. Not only old games but also new games (ex: stalker) don't work with Vista efficiently.

I installed vista recently but the crack didn't work.

Further to my surprise i got a problem with vista one fine morning.

No software in the system is working. It always gives some error for each and every software. Otherwise it says no administrative priveleges. But i am the only user.

I have to uninsstall the Vista and try again.

I reccomend that you do not install Vista. Their are so many vulnerbilities for anyone with the willing to exploit them at their hands. Vista isnt safe for anybody who wants to visit websites like these.

they have come out with the long-awaited 'roll-back-to-xp' program but you have to have a license to get it. they do know it is needed. who would install something called vienna? sounds like some kind of illuminati thing- total government control. beware!

I got a new desk top pc a while back that came with vista and at first I hated it. I've gotten used to it now and I kinda like it. Maybe I'm just too stupid to know any better but it seems ok.
I have a laptop with xp and I find that xp is easier to find your way around for cleaning and locating files.
As for the issues of security.....that's still a work in progress for me and I'm trying to learn what I need to be doing.
These boards help a lot.
Thanks.

ill be forced to use vista when XP becomes completely outdated (like 2000 did)

I just hope people continue to hack vista stuff to make it work on xp, like they did with DX10

Quite a mixed bunch of replies here so here goes.

The comment about 8800 Graphix card

I personally own and use the nVidia 8800GTS 320MB DDR3 graphics card in XP Pro SP3 and so far i have not regretted it. No game i have played in over 12 months has maxed out my system and this is without DX10 support.

Comments about the sidebar, visuals etc

All of these are resource hoggers like mad!! In XP all of these effects (more or less) can be emulated in some form or other (just look at products from stardock)

Comment about drivers

This has always been a problem even with XP in the early days, yet with SP1 out they still have this problem u wud think MS had bloody learnt first time round but still....

Now that i have answered those bits my own thorts....

IMO Vista sucks balls and is absolute garbage!!!! You need such a high end spec system just to run the OS its bloody stupid.

The UAC is stupid and prevents you from doing even basic stuff even after it has been disabled.

IMO Vista is written (no offense to anybody here btw) for morons who think that to turn on a system is to put on some sexy outfit and rub themselves all over their machine!!! Windows Explorer in Vista is fricking stupid too who came up with that idea? were they on acid or sumat!!!

Just my pennies worth my apologies to those who may feel offended by my comments that is not my intention at all.

Thanks for listening

Vista sucks, i had it and all it gave me were headaches, bluescreens and driver issues. It hated all my hardware but still gave me a vista score of 5.
Nvidia drivers have major problems with vista and all the ones i installed were rejected. DX10 was it's best selling point but now some very nice and clever people have made it work on xp making vistas best point useless.
It finally crashed and asked for the recovery program on the vista disk but that did f-all so i went back to xp and once again enjoy my computing experiences.

I'm running vista on my 5 day old Desktop (custom built with gigabyte S series Mo-Bo, 4gb Kingston RAM, 500gb WD HDD) and it's very very sluggish still. I'm definitly going to go back to XP Pro SP2.;)

I have no problem with Vista. Well, except I installed XP after it and my PC was screwed, aside of that, I'm fine, although somehow it boots pretty slow, but the OS works well, stylish, and pretty fast. I no longer have to use Search Engine, typing the word in start menu works wonder. Any driver installed perfectly, no BSOD or something.

For info, my spec is 2GB vGen RAM, 320GB HDD, GeForce 7300, Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz, stuff like that, and Vista runs smoothly. And without serial too! Only $4.5 :P

I've been running Vista for 2 months and I'm happy with it.
I agree with Stoner that the UAC bolts everything down so "$%^&*! tightly that you can't do anything useful with it. That was one of the first things I disabled.
However, I disagree with Stoner (sorry m8), about the style of Windows Explorer. I actually think it is better than XP (for me, anyway) and very easy to find folders for efficient filing of data.
I have no reason to roll back to XP at the moment.

If I wanted to get vista, I'd install Windows Server 2008 and convert it to a workstation. It's so much better than Vista security wise, less bugs and not much preinstalled software junk but it does come at a price.
