To cut down on multiple posts and stepping on other people's posts, I have a small request for an amendment to the posting/submitting rules....

It kind of irks me that when I post something new to the forum, then others post the same thing without even looking, and that just bypasses my post, making the work I did a waste.

Before you submit something, search onsite here for what you are planning to submit, and if there is already a submission, just add your links to that post as a reply instead of starting a new thread.

This suggestion is in my mind a way to show consideration to others. It will also cut the excessive number of multiple posts here, and clean things up a bit.

And also, for instance, if you are submitting something that would be an updated version of something already here, in your post title put "updated version" or something to that effect and post links as a reply.

I would normally agree with this, but i'll explain why it isn't a rule or enforced. I'm in no way being smart or anything either.

I've been a part of many forums. This includes several i've owned in the past, being a part of several, and being a co-owner of katz. 99% of the time, people do not use the search feature. This is especially true for "power posters" who want to post as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.

While i agree its not fair that what you have taken the time to post eventually gets bypassed because of this, there is a good side to the whole not searching or allowing so-called "double posts".

Sometimes people like to post "mirrors" of the same app and version number. It makes it very useful to those who search for a product, and have several topics to chose from while looking for whatever it is they want.

Anyway, in past forums we really stressed, enforced, and in some cases banned people for not searching before posting, or not replying to topics of posts with updated information. This not only drove away members, but it was tedious and "nazi-like".

Its so much easier, and more simple as a community to just let those post what they want when they want.

Fair enough. I will respect and abide by your policies.

Thank you for viewing and commenting in a timely manner.

yeah what you said st0ne is so true regarding searching, also the other point to this is that with the way rapidshare deletes stuff now that even if you did search and find a similar posts there is every chance that the link could be dead

Also, if somebody were to search for a link through a "mega" topic, it would take them... ages lol

i like the way katz do it i find it easier than having to search every time before i post and it also gives new members a chance to get their post looked at .

If you want people to find your individual film in a mega thread name the individual post then when they search they can find it

Good work katz

Not to flog a dying subject, but I just did a search in this Forum for "madonna hard candy" and found NINE posts in the last TWO days. Why? One would be OK, two redundant, nine is ridiculous. I agree that additional RS download links or mirror links should be added to one of the original posts.

There is a mod for this thing. It creates a "Check if already posted" box besides the subject text box. On clicking it, it searches the DB for the same title. If found, it displays a message: "This Thread has already been posted". Now the poster knows that he's not supposed to do a re-post :).

Mod's Name: "Check If Already Posted" for 3.6.x or .8

lakshyak to the rescue :D Thats a great mod and will make it easier to check before I post; just having the check button still gives the user the ability to check and their choice if they want to so they dont have to its they are posting a mirror or something.
