I mean, not the one where you rate downloads from the mainpage, but the 1 to 5 rating given to a website as it becomes a "recognized" one. I just read about this rating thingy in the FAQ in the same forum, but am curious how it works, and if it has any benefits ? ^_^

The main benefit is quality sites get rewarded with greater amounts of traffic. Lesser traffic to low quality sites means reduced number of users getting forwarded to sites whose priority is to juice their traffic and squeeze every penny they can out of their traffic via malicious/fake/misleading links, etc.

There are 2 types of webmasters: those who're doing it for the money and those that are doing it for the cause.

Just one thing to know, is this traffic for quality sites organized by the katz listing like quality sites submission will be in top places and less quality sites submission will be in backyards?

Yep. This is how it's done...

We accept 1 star submissions first... then work our way up to 5 star submissions. Thus the lower the site rating, the further back the submissions are pushed in the database. So 5 star submissions end up on Page 1.

For example, TheShareBay.org (http://thesharebay.org/) is a 5 star site, and having seen their traffic stats via Google Analytics, I can tell you that just over 38% of their traffic comes from Katz Downloads compared to just under 4% from PhazeDDL.

Thats great, now i got it why thesharebay (past name sharebay), downforum and all like those why gets in top page alltime :)

Although, i hope this will raise submitters mind to increase their quality of sites. Can you please let us know some basic pre-requisite of getting a good rank at least :).

I expect No ads site is one of the pre-requisite might be :)

I shall be posting a "Best Practices" topic as a guide for webmasters.
