I mean there's not much that can be done about it at this point, but it is preferable to not download a transcode. For example, the Scar Symmetry - Dark Matter Dimensions album I got from waffles.fm. It was encoded at 320kbps. But it was found out that the album was mastered lossy. So even when it was extracted from CD into .wav and then encoded into 320kbps.



The frequency cutoff was still at 16Khz.

From what I understand, if the encoding is clean and uniform and the frequency cutoff is at 16Khz AND if the mp3 is encoded at 320kbps. Then the album was mastered lossy and you can't do anything about it.

However, if the frequency cutoff is 16Khz, encoded to 320kbps mp3 and the bits themselves look as bad as the screen shot of the Seven - The Burning song in my previous post. Then it is without a doubt a transcode. Keep it if you can't find the original source, but if you can, then get rid of it as soon as possible.

But, thanks for the upload. I liked the album.

So apparently the Instant Suppression Album is also a transcode. The spectrum is craptacular.

thought I'd throw these up for offer as my first upload on Katz, I've had these for a while now & i prefer them to the originals, not every 1 will see it that way but i never remastered them myself so take them or leave them.

yeah this whole transcode thing is beyond logic, i guess some people dont understand the principles of compression ... and they are taking scene rips which are usually 192k or vbr's and trying to make them their own by making them 320k and re-tagging them.

i have a question tho, would taking a program like mp3gain after ripping the cd to mp3 do the same thing as the analysis shows shandowsof archonia?

when i converted lossless to mp3 320kbps witd easy cd-da extractor cut-off is at 16kHz but when i covert it with foobar everything seams to be ok. How can you explain that?

Do you notice how there's a lot of clipping in the bit stream, the encoding itself is still at 16Khz in Adobe Audition and do you also notice how the bit stream itself is blocky and all over the place?

For a proper encode from lossless to mp3, there should be no clipping. The spectrogram should be uniform and clean. The very fact that its not in your screenshots can either mean two things.

There was an error in the extraction or there's scratches on your CD which effed the extraction process.

Because honestly, that is a very ugly bitstream.

Also I use Exact Audio Copy for my extractions, its what is used on waffles.fm which I'm a member off. So, arguably, use that and test again. If you get a clean stream, it worked properly. If you still get an ugly stream, then there's something wrong with your CD.
