PL: Resident Evil 5 jest kolejną odsłoną cyklu wirtualnych horrorów, znanego w Japonii pod nazwą Biohazard. Kraj Kwitnącej Wiśni został wymieniony dlatego, iż właśnie z niego wywodzi się firma Capcom, odpowiedzialna za całą wspomnianą serię. Chociaż za „piątką” stoi Jun Takeuchi, a zatem ojciec sagi RE (jak również marki Onimusha), to nowy epizod dość wyraźnie różni się od swoich poprzedników.

Akcja piątej części gry została umieszczona 10 lat po zniszczeniu Raccoon City, czyli w 2008 roku. Wraz z Chrisem Redfieldem odwiedzamy gorącą Afrykę – miejsce pochodzenia tajemniczego wirusa o nazwie T-virus.
