Jon Kabat-Zinn - Mindfulness for Beginners

Quote:
Perhaps no other person in America has done more to bring mindfulness meditation into the mainstream than Jon Kabat-Zinn. Through many research studies and his pioneering work at the University of Massachusetts where he is founder of its world renowned Stress Reduction Clinic, Kabat-Zinn has served as a recognized bridge between science and meditation. With Mindfulness for Beginners, he offers the definitive course designed specifically to introduce new students to the proven benefits of mindfulness practice, including: stress reduction, alleviation of depression, chronic pain relief, and more. On CD 1, Kabat-Zinn presents "Mindfulness" —an accessible, comprehensive tutorial that addresses the basics of mindfulness meditation and explores the spacious, luminous, and mysterious qualities of awareness itself. CD 2 guides listeners through a series of five meditations meant to be used at home, at work, or while traveling. Includes Eating Meditation, Mindfulness of Breathing, and Mindfulness of the Body. Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way—on purpose, in the present moment, and without judgment. This special kind of attention nurtures greater awareness, and is a simple yet powerful route for getting ourselves back in touch with our own wisdom and vitality. Now, Jon Kabat-Zinn brings the practice of meditation to the widest possible audience with Mindfulness for Beginners.

Jack Kornfield - The Inner Art Of Meditation

Quote:
Kornfield, an ordained Buddhist monk, seasoned master, and author, conducts a series of five sessions on Vipassanna, or insight meditation. Vipassana shows how to incorporate Buddhist teaching into everyday living experiences, such as eating, driving, and walking. Kornfield instructs his class on developing an awareness of the present in order to reawaken the capacity to live more fully, compassionately, wisely, and lovingly. General audiences aspiring to a higher spiritual plane will find this an effective, practical, and enlightening course by a sensitive guide with a great sense of humor. The program is a bit lengthy, allowing time for meditation and class participation. It is not for the hurried. It also requires perseverance, as does any worthy self-actualization program. Its only detraction is the nearly inaudible students' comments and questions.

Thich Nhat Hanh - Teachings On Love

Quote:
For venerated Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, love is more than an emotion. Drawing on millennia of Buddhist wisdom and his own therapeutic methods, Teachings on Love further develops his practical notion of interbeing in terms of love. If all things are interrelated, what could be more paramount to negotiating those relations than love? And more than just a way of relating, love is a way of living: "Love by the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you eat." Nhat Hanh supports his practical advice with numerous verses for enhancing mindfulness, prostrations for expressing reverence, and succinct formulas, such as the Five Awarenesses and the Five Mindfulness Trainings. The fifth mindfulness training exemplifies the broad scope of Nhat Hanh's love: "Aware of the suffering caused by unmindful consumption, I am committed to cultivating good health, both physical and mental, for myself, my family, and my society by practicing mindful eating, drinking, and consuming." Thich Nhat Hanh forever writes with reassuring warmth, from which readers may derive insight as well as comfort.

Thich Nhat Hanh - The Present Moment

Quote:
Buddhism teaches that the present moment contains the seeds of all possiblities for our lives: freedom from suffering; true compassion for others; and a calm, spacious mind that welcomes change.

Originally recorded at a week-long retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh, The Present Moment shares the essential Buddhist practices designed to "touch the energy of mindfulness" that we carry within us. It is through these time-honored teachings that anyone can open the seeds of joy that are always present and waiting to change our lives.

Through easy-to-follow exercises, you will learn a treasury of meditations to help you walk, breathe, communicate — even cope with traffic — more deeply and consciously.

Thich Nhat Hanh - The Heart of Understanding

Quote:
The Heart of the Prajñaparamita Sutra is regarded as the essence of Buddhist teaching. It is recited daily in Mahayana temples and practice centers throughout the world. These Cassettes are a recording of Thich Nhat Hanh's lecture on the Heart Sutra at Green Gulch Farm in Muir Beach, California, on April 19, 1987.

Thich Nhat Hanh - The Heart Of Mindful Living

Quote:
Zen meditation master and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh offers his practical teachings about how to bring love and mindful awareness into our daily experience. These rare moments were recorded during a family meditation retreat. Kind – purposeful – illuminating – here is an abundant treasure of traditional gathas (teachings) that unify meditation practice with the challenges we face in today’s world. Enhanced features include traditional Vietnamese music performed by the monks and nuns of Plum Village, a meditation practice from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Mindful Movements video, and an interview with the author.

Marshall B. Rosenberg - Nonviolent Communication

Quote:
What if you could defuse tension and create accord in even the most volatile situations—just by changing the way you spoke? Over the past 35 years, Marshall Rosenberg has done just that, peacefully resolving conflicts in families, schools, businesses, and governments in 30 countries on 5 continents. On Nonviolent Communication, this renowned peacemaker presents his complete system for speaking our deepest truths ... addressing our unrecognized needs and emotions ... and honoring those same concerns in others. • Observations, feelings, needs, and requests: how to apply the four-step process of Nonviolent CommunicationSM to every dialogue we engage in
• Overcoming the blocks to compassion—and opening to our natural desire to enrich the lives of those around us

Marshall B. Rosenberg - Speaking Peace

Quote:
Using straightforward language, vivid examples and compelling stories, author and activist Marshall Rosenberg shows how the principles of nonviolent communication can literally change the way we speak with one another, leading to mutual respect and deeper understanding. Beginning with methods of resolving personal conflicts, from intimate relationships and parenting issues to workplace clashes, Rosenberg shows how these same methods can work on a larger scale, bringing peoples and nations together though his time-tested approach to resolving conflicts peacefully. Rosenberg has applied the principles of nonviolent communication in even seemingly intractable situations, including war zones such as Rwanda and Bosnia, with remarkable results. Here he shows how these principles can change not only our personal communication styles but also, ultimately, the world.
