5-year-old Sosuke lives with his mother, Lisa, on a cliff by the sea. One day he rescues an odd looking fish from the sea which he names Ponyo. He vows to love and protect Ponyo, but he has no idea she’s actually the runaway daughter of a sea wizard named Fujimoto who wants her back. Fujimoto eventually succeeds in returning Ponyo home, but she’s still fascinated with the wonders of the land world. She decides to use her father’s magic potions to take human form and returns to her friend Sosuke. Unfortunately her actions have drastic consequences to the balance of magical forces in the world, and it’s up to Sosuke and Ponyo to set things right.
