Default Chet Baker Megapost #2

Chet Baker - Jazz in Paris: Broken Wing (1978)
MP3 ~ 320kbps ~ Covers + Scans ~ RS.com ~ 137mb ~ 5% File Recovery

Allmusic.com:
Chet Baker recorded many albums in Europe during his final decade. This hard-to-find LP matches his trumpet with pianist Phil Markowitz, bassist Jean-Francois Jenny Clark and drummer Jeff Brillinger for a date in Paris. Chet sings on "Oh You Crazy Moon" and stretches out on trumpet during a fresh repertoire that includes "Broken Wing," Wayne Shorter's "Black Eyes," "How Deep Is the Ocean?" and Baker's own "Blue Gilles." Even with his chaotic lifestyle, most of Chet Baker's recordings are worth acquiring and Broken Wing is better than average.

Personnel: Chet Baker (vocals, trumpet); Phil Markowitz (piano); Jean Francois Jenny Clarke (double bass); Jeff Brillinger (drums)

Tracks:
1. Broken Wing (7:09)
2. Black Eyes (8:36)
3. Oh You Crazy Moon (7:03)
4. How Deep Is the Ocean? (10:09)
5. Blue Gilles (11:15)
6. Black Eyes (alternative take) (8:48)
7. How Deep Is the Ocean? (alternative take) (8:33)

AMG:
Trumpeter Chet Baker, accompanied by pianist Michel Graillier and bassist Jean Louis Rassinfosse, covers a lot of emotional ground on this European date. Chet Baker - Chet (1959)
MP3 ~ 320kbps ~ Covers + Scans ~ RS.com ~ 128mb ~ 5% File Recovery
Original Release Date: March 1959
Time: 51:03
Label: Riverside/OJC

Cduniverse.com:
Chet Baker's 1959 (reissued in 1987) release, CHET, is a romantic yet melancholy collection of mostly ballads. Baker doesn't sing here, but his highly emotive and lyrical trumpet playing makes this album more than compelling. Most importantly, this is one of the few recording sessions where he was accompanied by the legendary pianist, Bill Evans. Evans and Baker's approaches to jazz were uniquely individual, yet they both imbued their musical vocabulary with a high degree of pathos; they also shared a great love for soft, delicate ballads. On "Alone Together" and "If You Could See Me Now," Evans plays a subtle yet penetrating piano introduction, and Baker enters with his distinctly rich and breathy tone. Truly a great musical pair, Baker and Evans lead an all-star band in what can only be characterized as relaxed but reflective jazz. A merging of East and West Coast cool jazz styles, CHET is an album that emphasizes instrumental restraint, yet deep musical tenderness.

Personnel: Chet Baker (trumpet); Pepper Adams (baritone saxophone); Herbie Mann (flute); Bill Evans (piano); Kenny Burrell (guitar); Paul Chambers (bass); Connie Kay, Philly Joe Jones (drums)

Tracks:
1. Alone Together
2. How High the Moon
3. It Never Entered My Mind
4. 'Tis Autumn
5. If You Could See Me Now
6. September Song
7. You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To
8. Time On My Hands (You In My Arms)
9. You And The Night And The Music
10. Early Morning Mood - (bonus track)

Chet Baker - Chet Baker And Crew (1956)
MP3 ~ 320kbps ~ Covers + Scans ~ RS.com ~ 155mb ~ 5% File Recovery
Recording Date: 1956
Time: 63:12
Label: Pacific Jazz

Allmusic.com:
The numbers heard on Chet Baker & Crew were among a prolific flurry of recordings Baker was involved in during the last week of July 1956 — fresh from an extended European stay. Sessions were held every day from the 23rd through the 31st, which resulted in such classic titles as The Route, Chet Baker Sings, and Chet Baker Quintet at the Forum — which is also available under the title Young Chet — as well as Chet Baker & Crew. The crew on these sides includes Phil Urso (tenor sax), Bobby Timmons (piano), Jimmy Bond (bass), Peter Littman (drums), and of course Baker (trumpet/vocals). Joining the combo on both the original as well as the alternate take of "To Mickey's Memory" and "Pawnee Junction" is Bill Loughbrough (chromatic tympani). His unmistakable percussive accents and tuned drum solos give these West Coast bop tracks uniquely Polynesian intonations. The band members take full advantage of their individual roles and abilities as soloists to really stretch out on "Slightly Above Moderate" and the Urso-credited composition "Halema" — named after Baker's wife. The chemistry of cool that flows between Urso and Baker is perhaps at its finest during the seamless exchange heard on "Worryin' the Life Out of Me." Timmons also boasts notable contributions throughout. His playful and scampering style dresses up the bluesy "Lucius Lu" and "Line for Lyons," among others. The latter is also notable as it contains the sole Baker vocal on this set. Baker enthusiasts seeking companion tracks featuring the same lineup should likewise obtain the 1995 CD release Young Chet. Among the contents is the frenetic rendering of "Night on Bop Mountain." [The 1993 CD reissue of Chet Baker & Crew increases the original eight-song Pacific Jazz collection to include all 14 tracks completed during three sessions in late July 1956 at the Forum Theater in Los Angeles.]

Personnel: Chet Baker (trumpet); Phil Urso (tenor sax); Bobby Timmons (piano); Jimmy Bond (bass); Peter Littman (drums); Bill Loughbrough (timpani)

Recorded at the Forum Theater, Los Angeles, California on July 24, 25 & 31, 1956. Includes original liner notes by Woody Woodward. Remastered.

Chet Baker and Steve Houben - Chet Baker - Steve Houben (1980)
MP3 ~ 224kbps ~ RS.com ~ 51mb ~ Covers
Time: 33:23
Recorded in Brussels, Belgium on February 1980
Label: Carrere / 52e Rue Est

In those years the great Chet, the lost son of America, always in trouble with money, toured intensively across Europe, playing in several clubs with many talented musicians, having a prolific, in some cases obscure discography. This album, studio-recorded in Belgium, represents another rare treasure . Baker, nicely interplaying with the fine sax of Steve Houben sings at his best here, with the refined touches of Bill Frisell on guitar. An experienced rhythm section gives an important contribution to create an intense facination to the listener, increasing more than ever the nostalgia for the loss of such a great musician and poet.

Personnel: Chet Baker (trumpet); Steve Houben (alto sax); Bill Frisell (guitar); Dennis Luxion (piano); Kermit Driscoll (bass); Bruno Castellucci (drums)

Tracks:
1. This Is Always (7:43)
2. Sweet Martine (8:20)
3. Beatrice (6:46)
4. Deep In A Dream (5:47)
5. Once I Loved (4:47)

Chet Baker - Chet Baker In Bologna (1992)
MP3 ~ 192Kbps ~ RS.com ~ 87mb
Recorded in Bologna, Italy, April 20, 1985

Allmusic.com:
The perfect setting for Chet Baker in his latest years was in a quiet trio with guitar and bass. This 1992 CD brought out a previously unreleased, but well-recorded live set in which Baker is joined by guitarist Philip Catherine and bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse. Although there are a couple of typically indifferent vocals by Baker, his trumpet playing is in fine form throughout the date, which includes George Shearing's "Conception," "Tune Up" and the umpteenth remake of "My Funny Valentine."

Personnel: Chet Baker (trumpet); Philip Catherine (guitar); Jean-Louis Rassinfosse (bass)

Tracks:
1. Conception (Shearing)
2. My Foolish Heart (Washington, Young)
3. Tune Up (Davis)
4. My Funny Valentine (Hart, Rodgers)
5. But Not for Me (Gershwin)
6. Down (Davis)
